The Relentless Journey: Turning Setbacks Into Strength 🚀
My story isn’t one of overnight success—it’s one of risks, failures, and the relentless pursuit of something better. I’ve tried, failed, adapted, and tried again, pushing through moments when most people would give up.
It All Started With a Risk
I thought I could quickly grow my personal brand by teaming up with creators to publish organization-based content. Merch, subscriptions, and donations? That was the plan. It didn’t work.
I pivoted to producing events, managing social media, and offering video production services. That didn’t work either.
I fell back into the gig economy: bartending, delivery jobs, and personal assisting just to get by. I stayed on couches, launched another attempt at creating content with the dream of building a “streamer house,” and still, it fell apart.
Pivoting to Solopreneurship
I scraped together enough to buy a camcorder with livestreaming capabilities—what felt like a bad decision at the time fundamentally changed my business model. Instead of C2B/B2C (creator to consumer), I began working with small businesses.
I knew next to nothing about agency branding, but I had a contact running a media business. I pitched my passion for livestreaming and convinced them to take a chance on me. We started streaming webinars, and soon enough, I realized there was an opportunity:
• Webinars became courses
• We worked with continuing education clients
It felt like momentum. Then the pandemic happened. The business collapsed. I lost my client, and with it, I lost everything I’d built.
Rebuilding After Rock Bottom
The pandemic left me like it left so many others—unemployed and scared. I didn’t stop hunting for opportunities.
One referral came through: a chance to teach someone how to livestream, podcast, and webinar. That one client led to another, introducing me to audiobooks, television, and contract work. But it wasn’t enough.
Eventually, I couldn’t afford rent. I moved back in with family, holding onto my business by a thread. Despite my efforts, I had to let it go. I took a dead-end job out of necessity, got hurt on the job, and ended up on worker’s compensation, then bankruptcy. My life had finally collapsed. But if I’m honest, it had been held together by a thread for years.
Where I Am Now
For most of my life, I’ve been financially underwater, relying on family to survive. I’ve been chastised for my weaknesses—physical, mental, and spiritual—and I don’t want to be this weak anymore. I want to be strong. I want to be independent.
• I want to carry my own weight.
• I want to equally contribute.
• I want to do more than survive—I want to thrive.
That’s why I took the chance to pursue a Master’s in Business Administration. I don’t know for sure if this degree will change my life. But I know I’m doing everything I can.
Why I’m Sharing This
I’ve hit the bottom more than once, and every time, I’ve clawed my way back up. I know my knowledge, experience, and skills are valuable. I’ve built and rebuilt enough times to understand what it takes to grow—even when the odds are stacked against you.
If you’re struggling—whether you’re a creator, business owner, or just someone trying to figure it out—I see you. I’ve been there. And I’m proof that while failure may slow you down, it doesn’t have to stop you.
